Studying the Word: Torah Classes

Special Announcement: Summer Break!

Time until the next class:

After much discussion and prayer, we've decided to give the class a vacation over the summer. We've been operating continually since October 2008 and with summer travel plans and other activities coming up, it makes sense to give the class a summer vacation. We have just begun a discussion on the Kosher laws and will resume that discussion this coming Fall 2010. The specific start date for the fall session will be announced as the time approaches, so keep checking back here for more news.

Class sessions are being recorded and are available for download

Starting with the 3rd class in the series, we have been recording class discussions and making them available on our website. Classes 3 through 39, held between November 6th, 2008 and May 20th, 2010 are currently available, and all subsequent mp3 files will be posted as they are recorded. As more class recordings are created, I'll make a dedicated web page on this site for you to visit and download the desired class sessions. For now, if you want to be able to access and download the recent discussions and their associated material, .

For those attending the class and those requesting the recordings, we are asking for a minimum donation of $5.00 per person or couple. This is an extremely nominal donation because we don't want to deny access to our teachings due to financial conditions. While we don't deny access to our teachings due to an inability to pay, we do ask that you consider the needs of our congregation and give as the Almighty leads you in this matter. Go to the Contact Us page to find our PO Box address. Payments can be mailed to us there. All donations are tax deductable. Continue reading on this page to see the class summary.

613 Commandment Class Summary

This class involves a look at the 613 Commandments or Mitzvot that are recognized by Judaism to be God's directives to His Chosen People. While there are a number of methods of organizing these commandments and different cited sources, Rabbi Moshe ben Maimon or Rambam is thought to have created the most well-known version. Our purpose is to locate and examine each one of these laws, all directly from the Word of God. Our goal is to find out if any part or perhaps all of those commandments apply to us, as a body of both Jewish and Gentile believers in Yeshua (Jesus) the Messiah.

I have the study notes for this class in PDF format. Let me know if you plan to attend this class and I'll send you the links so you can download the notes. There is a 14 page "introduction" that you'll need to have for the first class. As we progress into the actual study of the commandments, I'll make a separate document available containing that list. I will also recommend some online resources on this site for people to review prior to class. These resources will be particularly important to review if you are a student who has no prior experience studying Torah, particularly from a Messianic or Hebraic perspective.

If anyone out there has any questions or would like to learn more about studying the Bible from a Torah perspective, please call our congregational phone at (208) 859-7265 or email us by .

Shalom!
